Today is Veterans' Day. Special thanks to all of our service men and women and their families who support them. We are lucky enough to have several uncles who have proudly served this country in every branch of the armed forces (except the coast guard). So thank you to Uncle Bob, Uncle Butch and Uncle Loren for your years of service. Thank you for working hard to secure a safe place for my children to grow up. We are all indebted to you.
On another note, I just learned that my niece has a blog. What a fun way to keep a record of our lives. I encourage any young person to take up writing - even if you just write about yourself. It's a great way to share part of yourself with those who care about you (just be sure not to share anything too personal or identifying - we want to keep the creeps away). It's also a wonderful way to practice your writing skills and develop your voice. Keep it up, K!
On to the fun stuff.... the kids.
Allison woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. First, she woke up at 4:15. Yeah, much too early. I tried to hold her off for awhile by letting her get some extra sleep in bed with us. No such luck. She was a wiggle worm. So back to her own bed with some toys. But she was having none of that. At 5am we were all out of bed and going. From that point on she was a total pill - whining about every little thing. I only felt slightly guilty at how happy I was to leave for work.
Peter has a bit of a stomach bug. All day Sunday he was just not himself. And he threw up a few times. After that he refused to eat. I finally got a bit of Pedialyte in him to keep him hydrated. Yesterday we stayed home together and he got lots of cuddles. He's still not back to 100% but he's getting there. It's so hard to know they don't feel good when they are so little.
This weekend....
In addition to Allison's tumbling class, we spent an hour or so at the Historical Museum. We wanted to go back on a day it wasn't freezing cold and there weren't hundreds of other people. It's a really great place for the kids. They have 2 farms - an 1860s farm and an 1890s farm - set up. We got to see a demonstration by a blacksmith. We saw a lot of animals and we even spied a red fox who was trespassing in hopes of snagging a chicken, I suspect. He was definitely not part of the planned show.
Allison had an up close encounter with a donkey. She was standing at the fence checking him out and he decided he wanted a closer look. He walked over and poked his head right through the fence near her. She backed up until she finally fell and landed square on her bottom. I know you aren't supposed to laugh but it was really so funny to watch. After that she still wanted to check him out but only from the safety of my arms. I'll have to get the pictures up later.
